A 22-year-old man died Thursday morning after a house fire broke out in the Village of Odessa.
The Schuyler County Sheriff’s Office says Brendyn C. Hammond was inside the home at 204 College Avenue when the fire started around 4:37 a.m. He did not survive.
Deputies and multiple fire departments responded to the fully involved blaze. Crews from Odessa, Montour Falls, Watkins Glen, Horseheads, and Newfield battled the fire, while others from Beaver Dams and Community Fire departments covered additional county calls.
As of Thursday afternoon, investigators from the state and county were still on scene working to determine the cause.
The sheriff’s office offered condolences to Hammond’s family and loved ones.
