Tompkins County approves temporary office move to Lansing

Tompkins County offices will temporarily relocate to Lansing as part of a $50 million plan to build a new Center of Government in downtown Ithaca, according to the Tompkins Weekly.

Legislators approved buying a building on Dutch Mill Road for $1.2 million to house departments during construction, expected to begin in 2027.

The relocation plan passed 9-5, but lawmakers amended it to exempt the Board of Elections after concerns over accessibility and transparency.

Which departments will move is still undecided and subject to future votes.
