Middle schoolers got hands-on with science during a summer camp at Canandaigua Lake, conducting chemical tests and studying aquatic life, according to Finger Lakes Times. The Water and Wildlife Summer Camp gave students tools and training to assess the lake’s health using real lab techniques.
They tested for pollutants like nitrates, learned about invasive species, and used high-tech probes donated by Xylem Water Solutions. The week-long camp is backed by local donors and the Canandaigua Lake Watershed Association.
The program honors educator Jim Holden and aims to build the next generation of lake stewards.
