Gov. Kathy Hochul has approved bills letting the village of Weedsport and the town and village of Skaneateles continue collecting hotel taxes through Dec. 31, 2027, The Citizen reports. The measures, sponsored by Assemblyman John Lemondes and Sen. Rachel May, passed with strong bipartisan support.
Weedsport can charge a 7% tax, though it has only one motel and no projected revenue in its current budget. Skaneateles’ town and village each levy a 5% tax — the village expects $350,000 annually, and the town projects $100,000. In Skaneateles, the tax also applies to vacation rentals.
These local charges come on top of county hotel taxes — 5% in Cayuga County and 7% in Onondaga County — and are meant to fund services like police and fire calls.
