Geneva fundraiser supports family of murder victim

A barbecue picnic in Geneva raised funds Sunday for the family of Sam Nordquist, a transgender man tortured and killed in Ontario County, according to News10NBC. The money will help cover travel costs for Nordquist’s Minnesota-based relatives to attend upcoming court hearings for the seven defendants charged in his death.

Organizers and attendees said the event showed the community’s rejection of hate and its commitment to standing with the family. Reverend Colin Pritchard, who led an earlier vigil, noted that the tragedy has built lasting bonds and empathy, regardless of background or identity.

The next court hearing in Nordquist’s murder case is set for Sept. 2 at the Ontario County Courthouse in Canandaigua.
