A Cayuga County jury has convicted Steven Walsh of breaking into a senior relative’s home and violently assaulting them, District Attorney Brittany Grome Antonacci announced Thursday.
Walsh was found guilty of burglary in the first degree, assault in the second degree, aggravated criminal contempt, and criminal contempt in the second degree.
Jurors—eight men and four women—deliberated for just over an hour before returning the guilty verdicts.
According to prosecutors, Walsh entered the victim’s home on November 2, 2024, violating two active orders of protection. Once inside, he severely beat the 91-year-old, causing three broken ribs and extensive bruising. He fled the scene but was arrested two days later outside a retail store in Camillus.
The criminal contempt charge stems from a separate order of protection violation that occurred on October 31, 2024.
Walsh is set to be sentenced on October 16 and faces up to 25 years in prison.
Chief Assistant District Attorney Christopher T. Valdina and Assistant District Attorney Amanda Raub led the prosecution.
