Once a retail hub with 140 stores, Rochester’s Marketplace Mall is now mostly empty, with up to 80% of its storefronts vacant, according to 13WHAM. Town leaders and residents say the decline is clear, though owner Wilmorite claims the mall is transitioning into a mixed-use site.
Some progress has been made: a UR Medicine orthopaedic center opened in 2023, followed by senior apartments and new businesses. Still, town officials say reinvestment has been minimal, and the space lacks appeal to attract tenants or visitors.
Wilmorite says it’s negotiating with potential retail, hotel, and entertainment tenants, while the town pushes for revitalization that benefits Henrietta’s economy and families alike.
