Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez violated House ethics rules during her 2021 Met Gala appearance by failing to fully pay for her attire and accepting a free ticket for her partner, according to a new House Ethics Committee report.
While the committee found no evidence the congresswoman knowingly underpaid, it cited delayed vendor payments and suggested a designer may have discounted costs due to her staff. AOC was credited for making good-faith efforts to follow the rules and has agreed to pay roughly $3,000 to close the matter.
Her chief of staff said she accepts the ruling and will complete the necessary payments.
