Rochester man charged with DWI after found asleep in vehicle

A Rochester man was arrested in Penn Yan last week after police found him asleep in a car parked on a curb at a local business.

Karl Norman K. Tashjian IV, 36, was taken into custody on July 24 at 6:36 a.m. after officers responded to a report of a person sleeping in a vehicle. According to the Penn Yan Police Department, the car was parked in an off-street handicapped zone and showed signs of being improperly positioned.

Officers said Tashjian displayed several indicators of intoxication and failed a series of field sobriety tests. He was transported to the Yates County Jail, where a breath test revealed a blood alcohol content of 0.14%.

Tashjian was charged with driving while intoxicated under common law, DWI with a BAC of 0.08% or higher, consuming alcohol in a motor vehicle, and parking in a handicapped zone. He was later released on traffic tickets and is scheduled to appear in Penn Yan Village Court.
