Over-height tractor-trailer strikes Thruway overpass in Seneca County

A tractor-trailer crash caused structural damage to a Thruway overpass in Seneca County Friday morning, leading to lane closures and traffic disruptions, according to New York State Police.

The incident occurred at approximately 11:41 a.m. on July 25, when a westbound tractor-trailer struck the overpass at mile marker 315.9 near Exit 41 in the Town of Tyre.

The vehicle, driven by 32-year-old Mokhtar Mohammadi of Houston, Texas, collided with the Route 89 overpass while traveling west on I-90. Debris from the crash struck another vehicle in an adjacent lane. A passenger in that vehicle was transported to Geneva General Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Mohammadi was not injured and has been ticketed for operating an over-height vehicle.

Following the crash, the Thruway was temporarily closed but has since reopened in both directions. Engineers inspected the overpass and confirmed structural damage. As a precaution, Thruway maintenance crews have closed the southbound lane of Route 89 and installed temporary traffic signals to manage two-way traffic through the affected area.
