Florida woman charged in Ontario County SNAP fraud case

A Florida woman has been charged in Ontario County following an investigation into stolen public assistance benefits, according to a press release from the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office.

Dawn Maureen Hyde, 55, of Bradenton, Florida, was arrested Tuesday morning on an active warrant for grand larceny in the fourth degree. Authorities say Hyde unlawfully received $2,217 in SNAP benefits between August 2022 and April 2023, after failing to report her move out of New York.

The investigation revealed Hyde filed for and received benefits while residing in the Town of Hopewell. After relocating to Florida without notifying Ontario County, she continued to receive public assistance she was no longer eligible for.

Hyde turned herself in at the Ontario County Jail on July 22 and was arraigned before being released on her own recognizance. She is scheduled to appear in Hopewell Town Court at a later date to answer the charge.
