Bills to bring back red helmets for regular-season finale at Highmark Stadium

The Buffalo Bills are turning back the clock in 2025, announcing the return of their iconic red helmets for the team’s Week 18 regular-season finale against the New York Jets. The move will mark a nostalgic sendoff for the current Highmark Stadium before the team opens its new venue in 2026.

The red helmets, featuring blue and white striping with white facemasks, were a fixture from 1987 to 2001, a period that included Buffalo’s four straight Super Bowl appearances. The announcement came via a highlight-filled video tribute to some of the franchise’s most memorable moments during that era.

“There’s no better way to celebrate our fans and honor our team’s history,” said Bills COO Pete Guelli, calling the return of the red helmets a fitting tribute as the stadium era closes.

In addition to the red lids, the Bills will don their classic ‘Standing Buffalo’ throwback uniforms for two games in 2025: Week 5 on Monday Night Football in Atlanta and Week 11 at home vs. Tampa Bay. The Falcons, too, will wear their own retro uniforms in that Week 5 matchup, adding to the old-school flair.
