United Way to distribute $475,000 to 28 Cayuga County nonprofits

The United Way of Cayuga County will allocate $475,000 to support 36 programs operated by 28 nonprofit agencies over the next two years, the organization announced Friday.

The funding—made possible by donations from individuals, businesses, and foundations—will back initiatives grouped under four focus areas: community resilience, youth opportunity, healthy communities, and financial security.

Among the recipients are Literacy Volunteers of Cayuga County, Auburn YMCA-WEIU, Cayuga Counseling Services, The Salvation Army, and the Harriet Tubman Liberation Foundation. The funds will aid programs ranging from disaster relief and adult literacy to childcare, substance abuse counseling, and emergency feeding services.

The allocation reflects a broader shift by United Way chapters globally to align donor support with high-impact categories that address local needs.
