Running to Places Theatre Company is gearing up to present Urinetown: The Musical, a sharp-witted Broadway satire that turns climate crisis and corporate greed into comic gold.
Performances will run from July 11–13 at Ithaca High School’s Kulp Auditorium, with shows Friday at 7:00 p.m., Saturday at 2:00 and 7:00 p.m., and Sunday at 2:00 p.m. The production has a runtime of about two and a half hours, including intermission.
Described by organizers as “the best show with the worst title,” Urinetown is set in a dystopian future where water is so scarce that even restroom use is regulated—and monetized. As citizens grow tired of paying to do their business, a group of rebels rises up against a ruthless corporation enforcing the rules.
Originally nominated for nine Tony Awards, Urinetown earned wins for Best Book and Best Original Score, gaining fame for its daring humor and timely themes.
Running to Places offers the show entirely free to both cast participants and audiences, with ticket options that include built-in donations for those who wish to support the company’s mission. Registration is required for attendance.
In a special post-show bonus, attendees can pose with the cast at Jyl’s Photo Booth—also free and open to all.
