The New York Mets made a handful of roster moves before Friday’s series opener in Pittsburgh.
Most notably, the team placed right-hander Griffin Canning on the 60-day injured list after he ruptured his left Achilles during Thursday night’s game against the Atlanta Braves at Citi Field. The 29-year-old will miss the remainder of the season.
Infielder Mark Vientos was activated from the injured list, while righty Blade Tidwell was recalled from Triple-A Syracuse, and left-hander Colin Poche was selected to the Major League roster.
To make room, the team optioned right-hander Austin Warren and infielder Jared Young to Syracuse. Lefty Richard Lovelady, who was designated for assignment earlier this week, was outrighted to Syracuse but chose free agency instead.
Tidwell will work out of the bullpen initially and could move into the rotation soon, depending on when Sean Manaea and Kodai Senga return from injury.
With Young sent down, infielder Ronny Mauricio remains on the active roster.
