A 700-page environmental report on Micron’s planned semiconductor facility in Clay is raising red flags, according to CNYCentral. Consultant Donald Hughes is calling for an extended public review, warning of long-term risks, especially from toxic PFAS chemicals used in chip manufacturing.
Hughes, citing the chemicals’ persistence and health dangers, said 45 days isn’t enough time to assess a project with 50 years of impact. He wants Micron to go beyond regulations and adopt technology to eliminate harmful discharges.
He and others plan to petition the Onondaga County Industrial Development Agency for a longer, more inclusive public input process.
