Senator Helming invites kids to join 2025 summer reading challenge

State Senator Pam Helming is encouraging young readers across her district to take part in the 2025 Summer Reading Program, offering a fun and free way for children and teens to stay engaged with books during the summer break.

This year’s theme, “Color Our World: Colorea Nuestro Mundo,” invites participants to explore new ideas and experiences through reading. Children who read at least three books by the end of summer will receive a personalized Summer Reading Certificate signed by Senator Helming.

“Reading with children builds creativity and connection,” Helming said. “When kids read on their own, they go on journeys, explore new ideas, and expand their imaginations. It’s so important to keep that spark alive during the summer months.”

The program is open to youth of all ages. Families already enrolled in a local library’s summer reading program are welcome to participate as well.

To join, parents or guardians can visit helming.nysenate.gov, click the Summer Reading Program icon, and enter their child’s name along with the books they’ve read. The deadline for submissions is August 22.
