The U.S. Supreme Court has rejected a petition to block a retrial in the high-profile “Buffalo Billion” corruption case, according to Spectrum News 1.
Defendants Louis Ciminelli, Steven Aiello, Joseph Gerardi, and Alain Kaloyeros argued the retrial violated double jeopardy protections. Their original 2018 convictions were overturned in 2023, but the Second Circuit ordered a new trial under a fresh indictment.
The case stems from a $1 billion economic initiative launched in 2012 by then-Gov. Andrew Cuomo, aimed at revitalizing Buffalo through major state-funded projects, including Tesla’s RiverBend facility.
