Early votes surge in New York ahead of primaries

Early voter turnout in New York surged this year, with over 427,000 residents casting ballots before Primary Election Day, according to the state Board of Elections. This marks a significant rise from 2023’s off-year election numbers.

New York City led the charge, contributing more than 384,000 early votes, likely driven by the high-profile Democratic mayoral primary. Elsewhere in the state, turnout varied widely—Albany, Syracuse, Buffalo, and Rochester each held key local contests, while Clinton County saw no early voting at all.

The highest turnout occurred on the final day of early voting, June 22, with nearly 85,000 participants. Voting concludes today, with polls open statewide from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m.
