Auburn cracks down after debris falls again from vacant downtown building

City officials in Auburn are taking emergency action against the owners of a deteriorating downtown building after debris fell from its facade for the second time in three years, according to The Citizen.

The six-story structure at 120 Genesee St. has been vacant since 2017. Its California-based owners, Felipe and Katherine Martin, face code violations and charges for fencing installed to protect the public. The building was once slated for a $7.3 million redevelopment, but progress stalled.

While architects and engineers have now been hired, frustration remains. On the same day debris fell, the Martins reportedly purchased a $6.77 million office building in California.
