As summer temperatures soar across Upstate New York, National Grid is offering practical advice and assistance programs to help customers stay cool, safe, and energy efficient.

The company’s 2025 summer campaign includes energy-saving strategies and payment options aimed at reducing household costs and protecting vulnerable residents from extreme heat.

“Simple steps like raising your thermostat, drawing your curtains, or using a fan with your AC can lower energy usage and bills,” the company stated. Customers are also urged to clean or replace AC filters, vacuum vents, and switch to LED light bulbs for better efficiency.

To help manage energy costs, National Grid recommends programmable thermostats, unplugging electronics while away, and avoiding ovens on hot days. Using fans to circulate cool air and closing blinds during peak sunlight can reduce indoor temperatures and prevent air conditioners from overworking.

Income-eligible customers may apply for up to $1,000 in summer cooling assistance through the HEAP program. Applications are handled on a first-come, first-served basis by local district offices.

Additional support includes Budget Billing for all customers to even out seasonal spikes in energy bills, and Deferred Payment Agreements for those behind on payments. A Bill Extender Program is available for eligible seniors and those on fixed incomes.

National Grid also offers multilingual customer service and online tools at ngrid.com/ee to help residents find resources in over 60 languages.
