LSU baseball continued to cement its legacy Sunday night, securing the program’s eighth national championship with a 5-3 win over Coastal Carolina to sweep the 2025 NCAA Division I title series. The Tigers sealed the victory — and the Men’s College World Series crown — with a textbook 4-6-3 double play, closing out their second championship in three years.
With the win, head coach Jay Johnson becomes the fastest to earn two MCWS titles, adding to his already remarkable tenure in Baton Rouge. LSU’s dominance continues to elevate the SEC’s legacy, giving the conference its sixth consecutive national championship in baseball.
Game 1 of the championship series saw LSU edge Coastal Carolina in a tense 1-0 shutout behind a stellar complete game from left-hander Kade Anderson, who was later named the tournament’s Most Outstanding Player. In Game 2, the Tigers used early offense and dependable pitching to hold off a late rally and clinch the title.
The 2025 run adds to LSU’s storied history with previous championships in 1991, 1993, 1996, 1997, 2000, 2009, and 2023. This latest triumph further solidifies the Tigers’ standing as one of college baseball’s elite programs.
The path to Omaha began with a 64-team field, whittled down through regionals and super regionals before concluding with eight teams at the Men’s College World Series in Nebraska, which wrapped up June 22.
