The City of Geneva is restructuring its leadership team, introducing a new Assistant City Manager position aimed at strengthening partnerships and streamlining services across key departments.
City Manager Amie Hendrix announced the change in a message to community partners, citing recent staffing transitions as an opportunity to “reimagine how we serve the community.” The new position will consolidate responsibilities previously managed by the Directors of Economic Development and Recreation—roles left vacant in recent weeks.
“This organizational change positions us to be a more responsive, coordinated, and strategic partner,” Hendrix said. “With dedicated leadership focused on these priority areas, we’ll be better positioned to support your organizations’ missions and our shared community vision.”
The Assistant City Manager (ACM) will oversee Parks & Recreation, Economic Development, Building, Planning & Zoning, and Buildings & Grounds. The shift is designed to enhance interdepartmental coordination, improve project response times, and boost competitiveness for grant funding.
A second new Coordinator position will also be created to further support the revised structure, which is expected to be fully implemented by the fall. Recruitment for the ACM role begins in the coming days, with interviews anticipated in late July or early August.
The city stressed that existing projects and partnerships will continue without interruption during the transition. “Your current agreements and partnerships remain unchanged, our commitment to collaboration continues, existing project timelines are maintained, and our open-door policy for community partners stays in place,” Hendrix said.
Community members will be invited to meet the incoming ACM once the hiring process is complete. Hendrix encouraged partners to share suggestions for community priorities that the new leadership should address.
