The New York Yankees couldn’t hold on to a mid-game lead Friday night, falling 5-3 to the Orioles at Yankee Stadium and dropping their seventh game in their last eight.
After Baltimore struck first with a pair of runs in the top of the first, the Yankees responded immediately. Jazz Chisholm Jr. lined an RBI single and Jasson Domínguez followed with a sacrifice fly to even the score at two. Aaron Judge later gave New York its first lead of the night with a solo home run in the third, his 27th of the season and 48th career blast against the Orioles.
Max Fried worked through some early traffic but eventually settled in. The left-hander struck out seven over six innings, allowing three runs, including a string of soft singles in the sixth that tied the game three.

The right-hander gave up a go-ahead solo homer to Ramón Urías, then allowed two more singles before being pulled. Tim Hill allowed one of those runners to score, putting the Yankees behind 5-3.
Despite multiple baserunners, the offense couldn’t solve the Orioles bullpen down the stretch. Anthony Volpe’s slump deepened with an 0-for-4 night, extending his hitless streak to 24 at-bats.
The Yankees (43-32) look to bounce back on Saturday afternoon behind Clarke Schmidt. Game 2 of the series is set to begin at 1:05 p.m.
