UR Medicine Thompson Health has once again earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval® for Advanced Certification in Perinatal Care, reflecting the hospital’s high standards and patient-centered approach.
Thompson Health initially achieved this certification in 2023, highlighting its commitment to quality improvement and patient safety in prenatal and postpartum care. The recent recertification follows an unannounced, rigorous evaluation conducted in April, during which surveyors praised Thompson for exceptional breastfeeding rates and notably low cesarean section rates among first-time mothers.
Nearly 800 babies were delivered at Thompson in 2024. This distinction underscores the hospital’s success in managing both routine and complicated pregnancies effectively.
“We greatly appreciate the efforts of all our Birthing Center associates and providers,” said President and CEO Michael F. Stapleton, Jr. “Special thanks to Director of Obstetrical Nursing KyShara Penns and Dr. Francis Finneran for their exceptional leadership.”
The Advanced Certification in Perinatal Care, developed in collaboration with the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, signifies Thompson’s position among the top hospitals for maternal and newborn care.
