A public meeting will be held Monday, June 30, to gather community feedback on the proposed Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad New York Byway (HTURB), a new initiative focused on education, preservation, and economic growth.
Hosted by the Underground Railroad Consortium of New York State, the meeting will take place from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the NYS Equal Rights Heritage Center, located at 25 South St. in Auburn. The event is open to the public.
The meeting will focus on reviewing and commenting on the Corridor Management Plan that will guide the HTURB project. Organizers hope to hear ideas on how local voices and organizations can be part of the byway in Auburn, the Finger Lakes region, and across New York State.
According to event organizers, the HTURB will highlight authentic stories of Freedom Seekers and offer inclusive, historically significant experiences along its route. Residents are encouraged to attend and help shape the vision for this important cultural initiative.
Attendees are asked to RSVP by June 23 via the provided online form.
