A Lima man is facing charges after allegedly allowing someone else to use his food stamp benefits while he was incarcerated, according to the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies arrested Jay J. Cole, 61, of Pine Trail on June 17. Investigators allege that Cole knowingly gave permission for another person to use his food stamps in January while he was in custody.
Cole has been charged with Misuse of Food Stamps and was released on an appearance ticket. He is scheduled to appear in Village of Bath Court at a later date.
Sheriff Jim Allard thanked the Steuben County Department of Social Services Fraud and Legal Affairs Unit and the District Attorney’s Office for their role in the investigation.
