The New York Yankees were blanked for a third consecutive game on Tuesday night, falling 4-0 to the Angels in the Bronx and extending their scoreless drought to 29 innings, their longest since 2016. The defeat marked their fifth straight loss and second consecutive shutout at the hands of Los Angeles.
Despite the outcome, rookie right-hander Will Warren delivered a strong outing. After allowing three early runs, including a two-run single that deflected off Jazz Chisholm Jr.’s glove, Warren settled in and retired 11 straight. He completed six innings for the first time in over a month, striking out a career-high 11 batters without issuing a walk. He threw 93 pitches and pounded the zone, tossing first-pitch strikes to 18-of-24 batters.
Unfortunately, Warren’s effort was wasted. The Yankees’ offense struggled again, managing just four hits and striking out 12 times. Kyle Hendricks, who entered the game with one of MLB’s worst ERAs, baffled the lineup for six shutout innings with nine strikeouts. Three Angels relievers closed the door, with New York reaching base only once after the sixth.
Giancarlo Stanton went 2-for-4 in his second game since coming off the injured list, while Jasson Domínguez notched a single in his first game batting leadoff. Aaron Judge’s recent slump continued, dropping to 3-for-24 over his last seven games.
The Yankees (42-30) will try to snap their skid and score a run when the series continues Wednesday night. Ryan Yarbrough takes the mound against Angels righty Jack Kochanowicz, with the first pitch set for 7:05 p.m.
