Voters in five Central New York school districts will return to the polls Tuesday, June 17, to decide on revised school budgets, according to WSYR. Districts including Central Square, Cazenovia, Cortland, Jordan-Elbridge, and Vernon-Verona-Sherrill reduced their proposed tax levy increases in hopes of gaining voter approval.
Central Square Superintendent Tom Colabufo warned that failure to pass the revised 3% increase could result in major staffing and program cuts. Other districts made similar reductions, with levy hikes now ranging between 0.85% and 4.65%.
Officials say the scaled-back budgets aim to preserve core services while addressing taxpayer concerns. Voter turnout will decide the fate of these critical school funding plans.
