Cayuga County’s 1% sales tax extension clears state legislature

Cayuga County will keep collecting an extra 1% sales tax through 2027, according to The Citizen.

The New York Legislature approved a bill allowing the county to continue charging the additional tax, bringing its total to 8%—split evenly between the state and county. The tax has been in place since 1992 and was set to expire in November.

State lawmakers passed the extension by wide margins, and Gov. Kathy Hochul is expected to sign it into law.
