A Chemung County man is facing multiple felony and misdemeanor charges after New York State Police responded to a domestic dispute in the town of Horseheads on June 10.
Matthew Chorney, 39, was arrested at approximately 10:34 p.m. following an altercation involving a female family member. Troopers arrived to find Chorney operating a 2016 John Deere riding lawn mower on a public roadway. Police say he refused to comply with lawful commands and resisted arrest.
An investigation revealed Chorney allegedly caused damage inside the residence, physically restrained the victim, and prevented her from leaving a room. He is also accused of threatening the victim and throwing household items, creating a dangerous environment.
Chorney faces several charges, including three E felonies: unlawful imprisonment in the first degree, aggravated family offense, and aggravated unlicensed operation. He was also charged with multiple misdemeanors, including reckless endangerment, criminal mischief, resisting arrest, obstructing governmental administration, and driving while ability impaired.
He was arraigned in the Town of Horseheads Court and remanded to the Chemung County Jail on $1,000 cash bail or $2,000 bond. A full stay-away order of protection was issued on behalf of the victim. Chorney is scheduled to appear in court on June 16 at 10:00 a.m.
