Uninsured home destroyed in Covert fire

A structure fire in the Town of Covert destroyed a residence on Powell Road Friday afternoon, leaving the home a total loss with damages estimated at $100,000.

Seneca County Sheriff Tim Thompson said deputies responded to 8587 Powell Road around 3:01 p.m. on June 6. All occupants, including homeowner William Borst, were safely out of the residence when emergency crews arrived.

Multiple fire departments, including Interlaken, Ovid, Lodi, and Trumansburg, provided mutual aid at the scene. The home was uninsured, and the American Red Cross was contacted to assist those displaced.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
