Bloomfield softball advances to state finals for second straight season

Ashlyn Wright powered Bloomfield to a 4-0 win over Section IV’s Deposit-Hancock in the Class C state semifinals on Friday morning at Grand Slam Park in Binghamton, sending the Bombers to their second straight state championship game.

The senior standout set the tone early with a two-run double in the first inning, then followed it with a dominant performance in the circle. Wright tossed a four-hit shutout with eight strikeouts and no walks, retiring the first 10 batters she faced.

Bloomfield added runs in the second and sixth innings. Abby O’Brien scored on a dropped fly ball after a sacrifice bunt from Marlee Poole, and Calla McCombs came home on Brianna Leitten’s RBI single to cap the scoring.

The Bombers (23-1) will face Section I’s Tuckahoe (19-4) for the Class C title at 10 a.m. Saturday.

Deposit-Hancock, winners of four straight Class D titles before moving up this year, finishes its season 20-3.
