Auburn man violates court order by harassing victim

A man was arrested in Auburn on June 10 after police say he repeatedly violated an order of protection and resisted arrest during his apprehension.

According to the Auburn Police Department, Kenneth Lafler contacted the protected individual several times via Facebook Messenger, text, and voice messages—actions that violated the terms of a stay-away order. Officers later located Lafler walking near Bostwick Avenue and Fort Street, where he was advised he was under arrest.

Lafler resisted, allegedly directing someone nearby to take his phone and attempting to prevent officers from recovering it. He also grabbed an officer’s arm during the encounter. Police believe Lafler was trying to destroy or conceal evidence of his contact with the victim.

Lafler was charged with aggravated family offense (felony), tampering with physical evidence (felony), criminal contempt in the second degree (misdemeanor), and resisting arrest (misdemeanor). He was processed and taken to Cayuga County Jail pending arraignment.
