Yankees lose two of three to Red Sox (highlights)

The New York Yankees (39-25) were unable to secure a series win on Sunday night in the Bronx, falling 11-7 to the Boston Red Sox (32-35) despite an early lead and another big night from Aaron Judge.

Carlos Rodón cruised through four scoreless innings before Boston struck back in the fifth. After a two-out walk, Kristian Campbell’s two-run homer sliced New York’s 3-0 advantage to one. Things unraveled further in the sixth when Rodón plunked Rafael Devers and issued a walk to Rob Refsnyder before Carlos Narváez launched a three-run shot that flipped the game. Rodón was charged with five earned runs over five-plus innings, taking the loss.

Rookie Hunter Dobbins, who had publicly stated he would rather retire than pitch for the Yankees, backed up his bold words with five solid innings for Boston. He held New York to three runs on four hits and outdueled the veteran Rodón in the rubber match.

Judge tried to will the Yankees to a win, slugging two homers and finishing 3-for-5 with four RBI. His first-inning blast was his 30th career homer against Boston, making him the second-fastest Yankee behind Babe Ruth to reach that mark. DJ LeMahieu added a solo shot in the fifth, briefly restoring the lead before Boston’s five-run sixth put the game out of reach.

The Yankees will get the day off on Monday before opening a three-game series with the Royals on Tuesday night in Kansas City.
