Delgado’s run against Hochul draws backlash from fellow Democrats

Lt. Gov. Antonio Delgado’s primary challenge against New York Gov. Kathy Hochul has sparked sharp criticism from several of his former congressional colleagues, according to Spectrum News NY1. Many Democrats, including Reps. Gregory Meeks and Adriano Espaillat, voiced disappointment and reaffirmed their support for Hochul, calling Delgado’s move ill-timed and counterproductive.

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries praised Hochul’s leadership while postponing a formal endorsement. Delgado’s campaign countered by blaming Hochul for past Democratic losses and positioned him as a needed change-maker.

While some Democrats in swing districts stopped short of endorsements, most emphasized Hochul’s record on economic growth and public services, urging unity ahead of 2026’s pivotal elections.
