A bold community initiative is underway in Penn Yan, where the Yates Community Center (YCC) has launched its “Raise the Roof” campaign to fund a long-awaited 35,000-square-foot facility.
The new multi-use building, planned for construction next to the current Fitness Center at 467 N Main Street, will serve as a vital hub for sports, wellness classes, and events across Yates County. With over $4.6 million already pledged, YCC is now asking the community to help close the final funding gap.
“We’ve heard from families who want a safe, year-round place for kids to play and from seniors seeking accessible wellness options,” said Charles Bollinger III, Executive Director. “This building is more than just bricks and mortar—it’s about fostering connection, health, and opportunity for everyone in our community.”
The planned facility will include a running track, a community room, and flexible spaces for activities frequently canceled due to lack of space. Construction is expected to begin in the fall, with the facility opening by December 2026.

To boost the campaign, YCC will host Casino Night on August 16 from 6:00 to 10:00 PM at Seasons on Keuka Lake. The event features games, tastings, raffles, and a silent auction. Tickets are $125 per person, with proceeds going directly toward the project.
“This is more than a fundraiser—it’s a celebration of our community’s future,” said Campaign Co-Chair Jill Bird.
