A 67-year-old man is dead after driving the wrong way on I-86 in Chemung and colliding with a tractor-trailer. The crash occurred around 12:30 p.m. on June 2 and shut down westbound traffic for several hours.
New York State Police said the man was traveling east in the westbound lane when the collision occurred. The 44-year-old Canadian truck driver suffered minor injuries. Diesel spilled from the truck following the crash.
Traffic has since returned to normal, but the investigation is ongoing as officials continue to assess the scene and circumstances.
