‘Something Rotten!’ musical to raise funds for Ovid Fire Department

The Between the Lakes Community Service Players will stage the hit Broadway musical Something Rotten! this summer to benefit the Ovid Fire Department, which responded to a destructive blaze earlier this year.

The production, set to run July 24, 25, and 26 at South Seneca High School in Ovid, marks a continuing tradition by the Players to support local charities. This year’s beneficiary was chosen in response to the January 21 fire that ravaged Ovid’s main business block, displacing residents and devastating multiple businesses.

“The Ovid Fire Department, along with many other agencies from across the area, battled the inferno for hours to bring it under control,” the group’s announcement stated. Proceeds will help the department replace lost equipment.

Directed by Tina Coville-Bauder, Something Rotten! is a high-energy comedy set in the 1590s that follows brothers Nick and Nigel Bottom as they attempt to rival Shakespeare by inventing the musical. Created by Wayne Kirkpatrick, Karey Kirkpatrick, and John O’Farrell, the show earned ten Tony nominations and has been praised for its humor and theatricality.

The cast features Alec Targett as Shakespeare, Dan Papperman as Nick Bottom, Chamberlain Bauder as Nigel Bottom, and Jared Pratt as Nostradamus. The ensemble also includes Ave Bauder, Chad Eastman, Andrea Puls, Julia Rogers, Mark Sinkiewicz, and Emily Suggs, supported by nearly 20 additional performers. Charity Gillotti leads the music, with choreography by Pam Bryan, Chad Eastman, and Tammy Papperman.

Performances begin each night at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $12 general admission and $10 for students and seniors. Advance tickets are available at www.zeffy.com/ticketing/something-rotten.
