Newark boards to review Walmart site changes

The Village of Newark’s Planning Board and Zoning Board of Appeals will soon hold meetings to consider proposed site changes at a local Walmart property on Route 31 East.

The Planning Board will meet on June 2 at 6:30 p.m., and the Zoning Board of Appeals will convene on June 9 at 6:30 p.m. Both meetings will be held in the Village Court Room at the Newark Municipal Building, 100 East Miller Street.

The project, filed under PJ #A25-0004, involves proposed modifications at 6788 Route 31 East. Justin Lattierre of Colliers Engineering & Design, representing Walmart Inc., is requesting two area variances. The first seeks approval for parking spaces sized 10 feet by 18 feet—shorter than the code-required 9 feet by 19 feet. The second request involves raising the height limit for light poles to 42 feet, exceeding the current maximum of 20 feet.

The property is zoned as Highway Business (B-3) and is listed under Tax Account Number 69111-00-342234.

Each board meeting will begin with a 6:00 p.m. workshop session, followed by official business at 6:30 p.m., including project review and approval of previous meeting minutes.
