We’ve learned new details about the student in Dryden who collapsed after one inhale from a cannabis vape, which was found to contain fentanyl.
The situation has prompted warnings from Tompkins County health and school officials.
The vape was bought from an unlicensed store, and staff had to administer multiple doses of Narcan to revive the student.
County health leaders are urging parents to talk with children about the dangers of illegal cannabis products and to lock up any substances at home.
Officials also reported a rise in accidental cannabis poisonings in children and a sharp increase in emergency room visits linked to cannabis use since legalization.
Free Narcan kits are available locally to help combat potential overdose situations.
