Cayuga County residents will have a chance to safely dispose of old tires during the Annual Tire Collection & Recycling Event on Saturday, June 7.
The event will take place from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at 7413 County House Road in Auburn. It is hosted by the Cayuga County Department of Planning, Cayuga County Soil and Water District, and the Cornell Cooperative Extension of Cayuga County.
Open to county residents only, the event offers a quick and simple drop-off system. Participants can load their tires into their vehicle, and staff will unload everything upon arrival. Organizers stress the importance of proper tire disposal in reducing fire hazards and public health risks like West Nile Virus and EEE.
There is a limit of 40 tires per person. Tires must not exceed 36 inches in diameter, and specialty tires such as rubber tracks and bobcat tires will not be accepted. Fees are $2 per tire for sizes under 30 inches and $5 per tire for sizes over 30 inches.
