Auburn man arrested after knife threat, also violated court order

A man is facing multiple charges in Auburn after allegedly confronting a woman with a knife in violation of an active order of protection, according to city police.

Officers with the Auburn Police Department were dispatched to a residence on Warren Avenue around 6:05 p.m. on May 18, after a report of the protection order being violated. The suspect, identified as Islam S. Alim, reportedly went to the home unannounced and confronted the victim about another individual who was at her residence.

Police say Alim was under a court-issued stay-away order that prohibited him from contacting or being near the victim. During the encounter, Alim allegedly displayed a knife, placing the woman in fear for her physical safety. A five-year-old child was standing near both the suspect and the victim at the time.

Alim fled the scene before officers arrived but was located at his own residence shortly after and taken into custody without incident.

He was charged with:

  • Criminal Contempt in the First Degree (felony)
  • Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree (felony)
  • Menacing in the Second Degree (misdemeanor)
  • Endangering the Welfare of a Child (misdemeanor)

Alim was processed and transported to the Cayuga County Jail, where he is being held pending arraignment.
