The Fayette Historical Society is inviting families to step into the past this Saturday with a hands-on history program exploring the town’s one-room schoolhouses.
The event, scheduled for May 17 from 1 to 3 p.m., will take place at the Romulus Central School cafeteria, 5705 State Route 96 in Romulus. Led by Dr. Dale Freier Jr., the program will uncover the historical landscape of Fayette’s early education system and pinpoint the original locations of its schoolhouses.
Attendees will then tour MacDougall Schoolhouse No. 14, a preserved building from the 1830s that was relocated to the Romulus Central School campus in 1997. Its restoration was part of the district’s 60th anniversary celebration in 1998.
Participants are encouraged to bring old photographs and stories connected to Fayette’s one-room schoolhouses. A special interactive portion will let guests experience life as a country school student in 1898. Refreshments will be provided, and the event is recommended for school-age children.
