Northeast College launches physician assistant program for 2026

Northeast College of Health Sciences has announced a new Master of Science in physician assistant studies program and is now accepting applications for its first cohort set to begin in January 2026.

The 24-month, six-trimester hybrid program aims to meet rising healthcare demand and prepare students for one of the fastest-growing professions in the U.S. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, physician assistant jobs are expected to grow 28% between 2023 and 2033.

Students in the program will begin with in-person learning on Northeast’s 286-acre campus. The curriculum includes training in state-of-the-art anatomy labs such as the Computerized Anatomy Resource Lab and Anatomage 3D visualization tables. The first trimester also features high-tech classrooms and simulated practice rooms that mirror real medical environments.

After the on-campus start, students will complete two trimesters of online coursework, followed by a full year of supervised clinical rotations at healthcare sites throughout New York and beyond.

“In recent years, Northeast has expanded its educational offerings to establish a broader patient-centric foothold in clinical medicine,” said Program Director Dr. Scott Richards. “Given the tremendous support at Northeast and the College’s deep investment in the well-being and success of our students, I am excited to deliver this innovative PA program model.”

The M.S. in PA program is pending review and approval by the New York State Education Department and the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant. Provisional accreditation is expected to be considered at the ARC-PA meeting in September 2025. Without this status, the program cannot enroll students, and its launch will be delayed until accreditation is granted.
