Amazon walked back a reported plan to display Trump tariff costs on product pages after the president personally called Jeff Bezos to object, according to the company and White House officials.
The report sparked swift backlash from the Trump administration, with aides accusing Amazon of political motives. Trump later praised Bezos for resolving the issue, calling him “a good guy.” Amazon clarified the idea was briefly considered for a separate discount site, not its main platform.
The tension comes as major retailers resist Trump’s sweeping new tariffs, which economists warn could hike consumer prices. Talks with trade partners are ongoing, but key product exemptions are likely temporary.
