The Cayuga Museum of History and Art will host a special lunchtime lecture on Friday, April 25, spotlighting the dramatic history of Auburn’s industrial-era fires and the firefighters who battled them.
Lt. Brian Jessie of the Auburn Fire Department will present Flames & Factories: Auburn’s Industrial Boom and the Firefighters Who Battled It at the Carriage House Theater from 12 to 1 p.m. The event is open to the public, with a “pay what you wish” admission.
The lecture will explore major fires from Auburn’s manufacturing past, including the devastating Dunn & McCarthy factory blaze. Jessie will discuss how firefighters confronted these massive industrial infernos and how those experiences helped shape modern firefighting practices in the city.
For those unable to attend in person, the event will be livestreamed by request. Interested viewers can email Geoff Starks at [email protected] for access. A recorded version of the lecture will also be made available on the museum’s YouTube channel, courtesy of Auburn Regional Media Access.
