Trump Tariff Hike Could Double Prices on Essentials

The White House confirmed Thursday that tariffs on Chinese goods will now total 145%, up from 125%, prompting fears of rising prices on common items. With roughly 60% of Walmart’s inventory imported from China, the impact on American consumers could be substantial.

Using current prices at Walmart, reporter Deanna Dewberry calculated that a $15 pair of kids’ shoes could jump to $33.75, and a $26 doll might rise to $58.50. Even cookware and clothing are expected to see similar increases if retailers pass the full tariff on to customers.

Walmart has yet to comment on how the price hikes will be handled. For now, shoppers are left waiting to see how much more they’ll pay at checkout.
