Author’s Visit Inspires During Penn Yan Community Read

Penn Yan wrapped up its Community Read with a heartfelt visit from Marcos Antil, author of Immigrant, who connected deeply with local residents, according to organizers. Around 85 people joined the final session, held March 22 at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church and via Zoom.

Antil, who traveled with his young daughter, spoke about his journey, his hopes for Guatemala, and his work creating tech jobs there. The event followed earlier sessions exploring his book and immigrant experiences. A potluck and book signing followed his talk.

Audience members praised Antil’s message of perseverance, family, and cultural pride. Moved by the warm welcome, he plans to return to Penn Yan with his family in the fall.
