Fuel efficiency—not speed—led the pack at Watkins Glen International during the 21st annual Toyota Green Grand Prix, according to WETM. The event welcomed college students and eco-conscious drivers to test fuel-saving strategies on the famed racetrack.
Participants from eight colleges, including SUNY Morrisville and Alfred State, competed using hybrid, electric, and gas-powered vehicles.
The focus: precision driving for maximum miles per gallon under strict speed limits. Students prepped for weeks, undergoing tech checks and planning their routes.
For many students, the thrill of driving on a NASCAR track added excitement to a day rooted in eco-friendly goals.
